What is the history of the Mathildedal Ironworks?

The Mathildedal Ironworks is a former ironworks dating back to the 1850s. Iron was produced in the area for just over fifty years, after which the works switched to manufacturing agricultural machinery. From the early 20th century, the Mathildedal works were under the management of the Teijo Works. Industrial operations in Mathildedal ceased in the 1970s. The development of tourism in Mathildedal began in 2003.

Hotel Mathildedal offers meeting facilities for both large and small groups. Hotel Mathildedal features a larger meeting room, Kankirautavarasto, suitable for meetings and seminars of up to 50 people, as well as a couple of smaller rooms. Hotel Mathildedal brings all services together under one roof, meaning you can send us a request for a quote that includes your activity and dining preferences, and we’ll compile a single offer based on your requests.

What can I do in Mathildedal?

There’s plenty to do in Mathildedal for people of all ages. The village has several shops, restaurants, and cafés. Activities include saunas, Adventure mini-golf, tennis, padel, beach volleyball, and downhill driving and biking. Teijo National Park is located right next to the village of Mathildedal. The national park features trails of varying lengths, natural swimming beaches, and water activities such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding.

Mathildedal is a quiet little village. It’s busier in the summer, but you can still explore the village at your own pace. If you’re looking for true peace and quiet, we recommend visiting in the spring or autumn, when nature is at its most beautiful and there are fewer visitors.
